Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasizes zero tolerance for discrimination in IITs

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the 55th IIT Council meeting in Bhubaneswar and urged students to aspire to become job creators. He emphasized that IITs should focus on public welfare and become primary catalysts in the country’s development. He urged IITs to develop scalable and commercially viable solutions to societal problems. Pradhan also called for IITs to have zero tolerance for discrimination and provide all necessary support systems for students. He expressed concern regarding recent cases of student suicides and directed the directors to develop a mechanism to prevent discrimination. The Council agreed to enhance support for SC/ST and female PhD students. Pradhan also stressed the importance of developing a Digital library providing access to knowledge resources, including Indian scientific knowledge. The Minister called for an annual research and development fair open to all students in the country, which should become a globally recognizable event. The fair should allow everyone to participate in challenges and competitions, bringing out the best among students.
