The alarming spread of COVID-19 brought the world to a sudden halt in March 2020. When the whole world faced lockdown, India was no different and our economy & people were badly hit. The countrywide lockdown saw many migrant labourers stranded without money, food & shelter in various metros of the country. Survival of lakhs of Odia migrant labourers in Delhi NCR was at stake. At a time when people were locked in homes and apprehensive of stepping out due to the fear of the deadly disease, the volunteers and core group of Odia Samaj took the initiative to help their Odia brethren in Delhi NCR. Odia Samaj provided food packets and ration to more than 10,000 migrant labourers and worked towards fulfilling their basic needs.
Odia Samaj Covidcare Consultation
During the 2nd wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic which started around March 2021, India faced a huge crisis with the rising number of covid cases on a daily basis. The situation was extremely frightening with the Delta variant spreading across communities like wildfire. The healthcare system in India was overburdened with hospitals running out of beds, oxygen cylinders and medicines. Critical cases were not finding any support and mortality rate due to Covid was zooming up. There was a dearth of right advice and the public was deprived of medical consultation.
In this tumultuous time, Odia Samaj, came forward to help people across India. The “Odia Samaj Covidcare” programme was born which brought together patients and caring doctors from our community, who despite being overburdened by their regular hospital duties, took out time to give consultation to the covid affected patients in and outside Odisha. There was a 24/7 open toll-free number that people called during distress and were immediately connected with a doctor.
During this period Odia Samaj also ran an extensive social media campaign & held multiple webinars on various aspects of COVID-19 problems. These Webinars were attended by thousands of viewers from across the globe. The Webinars were addressed by doctors and medical professionals of repute and helped people tackle the disease in an informed and confident manner. The various solutions provided by these dedicated doctors helped many of our distressed brothers and sisters who were severely deprived of the right medical advice in such a crucial time.
