President Droupadi Murmu To Attend 'Boita Bandana' As Chief Guest In Odisha’s Paradip

President Droupadi Murmu is set to grace the “Boita Bandana” festival in Paradip, Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, on November 27 as the chief guest, according to a release from the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Scheduled to participate in the celebration from 10 am to 12.30 pm, President Murmu’s presence will add significance to the event organized by the Paradip Port Authority. The “Boita Bandana” festival commemorates the maritime legacy of ancient Kalinga, highlighting the journeys of Sadhabas, Odia mariners, who ventured to distant lands like Bali, Java, Sumatra, Borneo (all in Indonesia), and Sri Lanka for trade and cultural exchange. Women from the community played a pivotal role by giving these mariners a heartfelt send-off. Celebrated on Kartika Purnima, the full moon day of the holy month of Kartika, “Boita Bandana” is a grand event across Odisha, marking the culmination of the month-long ‘Habisha’ observance during Kartik and the conclusion of the five-day ‘Panchuka’ festival.
