Bhitarkanika National Park Reopens For Tourists From Today

Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapada district has reopened for tourists from today after a three-month closure. The closure was to ensure a tranquil environment for the mating and nesting seasons of saltwater crocodiles, which can become more aggressive during this time. The park is home to around 70% of India’s estuarine crocodile population, with 122 saltwater crocodiles nesting during this season. The recent census recorded 1,793 reptiles in the park. To enhance the tourist experience, 30 local youths have been trained as guides, and visitors can now book their visits through ‘www.ecotourodisha.com.’ The forest department has also constructed rest houses, and private tour and travel companies will set up well-furnished tents for tourists in Bhitarkanika.
