Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Graces International Conference 'Purvodaya Perspectives' on Regional Connectivity

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan played a key role in the Inaugural Day of the International Conference ‘Purvodaya Perspectives’ held at ITC Welcomhotel in Bhubaneswar. The Energy Forum (TEF), in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and with the support of the Ministry of External Affairs, organized a two-day conference on “Purvodaya Perspectives: Reflections on Regional Connectivity” on December 2nd and 3rd.

The conference commenced with Chief Guest Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, inaugurating the event. Guest of Honour Shri V. Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Parliamentary Affairs of India, also graced the occasion. Eminent personalities, including Mr. Mustafizur Rahman, High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Shri Saurabh Kumar, Secretary East (MEA), President Padma Vibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar, and Shri Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII, participated in the conference.

During the event, Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the significance of creating a roadmap for a more developed India. He emphasized the vision of Hon’able Prime Minister on Purvodaya, stressing the need to strengthen connectivity in the eastern part of India, including states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and the route connecting the Ganga ghats in Uttarakhand to Ganga ghats in Kolkata. He also highlighted the importance of connectivity in regions such as Ganga Sagar, Kalingapatnam, and the North-Eastern parts of India, as well as neighboring nations like Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.

Connectivity, according to Pradhan, is integral to India’s demographic development, impacting energy, education, and telecommunications, and playing a crucial role in job opportunities. He emphasized that Odisha, with its rich resources, is poised to be the epicenter for the next wave of connectivity, driving economic growth and cultural exchange. The tradition of Bali Jatra in Odisha reflects the state’s soft power and maritime prowess.

Union Minister Shri V. Muraleedharan underscored the importance of regional connectivity, emphasizing international collaboration in addressing challenges and opportunities. He highlighted that connectivity, especially focusing on Act East, is a cornerstone of the Government of India’s policy. The conference also included a plenary session led by Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, discussing Purvodaya, Connectivity, and India’s Foreign Policy. Eminent speakers like Ms. Mandakini Kaul from the World Bank, Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha, and Prof. Chintamani Mohapatra participated in discussions.

The second session, themed “Country Perspectives on Regional Connectivity,” was chaired by Mr. P. Kumaran, OSD (ER & DPA), Ministry of External Affairs, with dignitaries from Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal sharing their perspectives. The event concluded with the release of the book “India’s Energy Transition: A Road Map Across the Sector” by Chief Guest Dharmendra Pradhan, and the signing of MoUs (MSDE SSCs & CII/Industry) marked a significant highlight of the conference. The day ended with a mesmerizing dance-drama integrating Odissi and Balinese dance styles, showcasing the cultural richness of the region.
