Thespian Anant Mahapatra was honored with the prestigious Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra (GKCM) Award in Bhubaneswar, recognizing his lifetime achievements and significant contributions to the field of theatre. This accolade, which includes a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation, was presented during the 29th edition of the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award Festival. Anant Mahapatra, who had previously received the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja Samman in 2019 and was nominated for the one-time Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit in 2022, received the award in recognition of his outstanding theatrical career. Additionally, the GKCM Yuva Prativa Samman was conferred upon four highly talented artists under the age of 40, highlighting the solo artist’s crucial role in classical art forms. Arupa Gayatri Panda and Siddhi Waikar were honored for Odissi dance, Vishal Krishna for Kathak, and Arup Das for Odissi music (Mardala).
