Ratan Tata Conferred With KISS Humanitarian Award 2021

Renowned industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, has been bestowed with the prestigious KISS Humanitarian Award 2021. The award ceremony, held at his residence in Mumbai, marked a significant acknowledgment of his steadfast commitment to social development and exemplary corporate leadership. Among the attendees were Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran and three-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej, along with other dignitaries. The Founder of KIIT and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Achyuta Samanta, presented the award to Ratan Tata in a private ceremony at his home, owing to health reasons that have kept him from public appearances. Notably, Tata, who is typically reticent about accepting accolades, agreed to receive this award following a personal request from Achyuta Samanta. Although the award was announced in 2021, Tata was unable to receive it then due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as stated in a KISS release.

Expressing his gratitude upon receiving the award, Ratan Tata remarked, “I am extremely happy to receive this honor. This is the most significant moment of my life.” Achyuta Samanta, in turn, lauded Tata’s exceptional contributions, stating, “Ratan Tata is a revered name in India, and he is truly a good person. Being able to honor him today with this award is a privilege for us.” Reflecting on his personal admiration for Tata, Samanta shared, “Ratan Tata’s social work and leadership have been influencing me since my childhood. I have respected and liked him from a young age. My father was an employee of Tata Company. Since then, I have respected and liked Ratan Tata.”

On this momentous occasion, approximately 40,000 students of KISS extended their heartfelt wishes to Ratan Tata for a healthy, long, and disease-free life. Initiated in 2008 by Achyuta Samanta, the KISS Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals and organizations that embody the spirit of humanitarian work worldwide. Previous recipients of this prestigious award include a diverse group of global leaders, Nobel laureates, and notable figures from various sectors.
