President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday addressed the joint sitting of Parliament on the occasion of the introduction of the Union budget 2023. She took the opportunity to quote an Odia poem by famous poet Kuntala Kumari Sabat which describes Indian women and their valor.

“Basundhara tale bharata ramani nuhe hina nuhe dina, amara pirati ….” which when translated in to English, means, “Indian women are not inferior to anybody else in this world. Their immortal works will reflect for ages to come.” Murmu put emphasis on the fact that the number of females has become greater than males for the first time in our country.
