President Droupadi Murmu presents Padma Shri to Odisha’s puppetry maestro Maguni Charan Kuanr

Master puppeteer Maguni Charan Kuanr from Odisha was awarded the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held in New Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. Kuanr, an expert in the Kathi Kundhei nacha form of puppetry, received the award for his significant contribution to the art field. Three other Odisha natives – Krishna Patel for art, Antaryami Mishra for literature and education, and Patayat Sahu for agriculture – will receive their Padma Shri awards on April 5 from President Murmu. The President conferred a total of 52 Padma Awards for the year 2023, including two Padma Vibhushan, four Padma Bhushan, and 46 Padma Shri awards. S M Krishna was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in Public Affairs, and Prof Balkrishna Doshi was awarded the Padma Vibhushan (Posthumously) in the field of Architecture.
