Odisha Women’s Football Team emerged victorious in the 37th National Games 2023 by defeating Manipur 4-2 in a tiebreaker held at Tilak Maidan in Vasco, Goa. The thrilling match required a tiebreaker after both teams remained deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of the regulation period. Odisha secured the gold medal in the National Games Women’s Football competition, marking the second time they have achieved this feat. The match began with a goalless first half, but it was international star Pyari Xaxa who broke the deadlock by scoring a goal for Odisha in the 51st minute. However, Manipur responded strongly and equalized in the 79th minute through Nongmeikapam Sibani Devi.
The tiebreaker became the decider, with Pyari Xaxa, Grace Lalrampari Hauhnar, Bannya Kabiraj, and S Lynda Kom all successfully converting their penalties for Odisha. Manipur managed to score through Wangkhem Linthoingambi Devi and Phanjoubam Nirmala Devi.
