Rising Odisha badminton star Tanvi Patri has achieved a remarkable feat by clinching a double crown at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub-Junior (U15 & U17) Ranking Badminton Tournament, held at Peddem Sports Complex in Mapusa, Goa, from May 10 to 17, 2024. Tanvi, who is rapidly making a name for herself in the badminton world, emerged victorious in both the U-15 and U-17 girls’ singles categories. In the U-15 singles, where she was seeded second, Tanvi showcased her superior skills by defeating the top seed Hithaishree L Rajaiah of Karnataka in a commanding fashion, winning 21-9, 21-10 in the final. Her performance in the U-17 singles was equally impressive. Despite being unseeded, Tanvi overcame four seeded players on her path to victory. She triumphed over the 15th seed Rishika Nandi from Delhi in a closely contested final, securing the win with scores of 21-14, 19-21, 21-15.
The tournament was organized by the Goa Badminton Association (GBA) under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India (BAI). Tanvi, the reigning National U-13 champion, trains at the prestigious Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bangalore, which has been instrumental in honing her skills and competitive edge. Earlier this year, Tanvi participated in two junior international tournaments in Europe. She made it to the second round in the girls’ singles at the Dutch Junior International in Haarlem, Netherlands, from February 28 to March 3. Following this, she reached the quarterfinals at the German Junior International held in Berlin, Germany, from March 6 to 10.
