Odisha Shines Brightly at the 37th National Games




Odisha has always been a wonderland of heritage, culture and triumph, where heroes are born to create history and light up the heart of every Odia with pride. From our valiant freedom fighters to the modern-day trailblazers, Odisha’s golden legacy is always crowned with pride that keeps growing stronger day by day.

This legacy is now carried forward by our sports heroes who continuously shape the state’s identity and serve as inspiration for aspiring youth striving for success.

The recent National Games held in Goa were a burning testament to Odisha’s prowess in sports. We have proved to the world that we can perform beyond our expectations and push ourselves beyond our limits to achieve great successes!

This year at the National Games, Odisha bagged a total of 58 medals, securing 10 gold,18 silver and 30 bronze medals. Maharashtra secured the first position winning 228 medals in total.

Glory in Athletics

Athlete Shrabani Nanda’s unwavering determination proved that relentless effort and strength can pave the path to victory. Her triumph stands as a beacon of inspiration to all aspiring athletes. This ace sprinter from Odisha bagged a gold medal for her unparalleled skills in sprinting. As a token of appreciation, she was also rewarded 9.5 lakhs by the Odisha government.

Another shining star at the event was A.Greeson Jeeva who bagged a silver medal in men’s 110 m hurdles.

Shining In Rugby

Both the men’s and women’s rugby teams displayed remarkable performances, with women clinching the gold after they defeated Bihar in the finals, while  men secured a bronze leaving West Bengal behind.

Victory In Golf

In golf, Odisha’s Abhipsa Panda and Bikash Chandra Pattnaik secured a gold medal in the mini golf mixed doubles event.

Wushu Win

While Odisha secured medals and brought laurels in several games, Kho Kho also has had its fair share in the limelight. Both the men’s and the women’s teams got silver medals. This is the second consecutive time the women’s team has won a silver medal.

Pranati Nayak made history by winning a gold medal in gymnastics, marking a significant achievement for Odisha. It was the first gold medal for gymnastics in the history of Odisha.

Odisha’s daughter Jhili Dalabehera won accolades for her victory in weightlifting. She acquired a bronze in the 49 kg category with an impressive lift of 167 kg!

The Women’s Football Team triumphed over Manipur, marking a significant milestone for women’s empowerment in sports.

In the newly-introduced discipline of SQAY Martial Arts, the performers mesmerized the viewers with their exemplary skills, with Kunda Majhi winning silver and Dilafroz & Minati Sahoo securing bronze medals.

The success story extended to Kayaking, where Fulmani Xaxa and Bidya Devi bagged gold in the K2-W 500 mt event, while Sachima Karketta and Rashmita Sahoo secured bronze in the C2-12, 500 mt event. The total medal tally for Odisha in these events stood at an impressive four.
