Justice Subhasis Talapatra appointed Chief Justice of Odisha High Court

Justice Subhasis Talapatra has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court by President Droupadi Murmu. He is set to assume the position after the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Dr. Justice S. Muralidhar, on August 7. The Supreme Court collegium had recommended Justice Talapatra for the post, citing his extensive experience in dispensing justice in two High Courts. Justice Talapatra was initially appointed as a Judge of the Gauhati High Court on November 15, 2011. Later, with the establishment of a separate High Court for Tripura in 2013, he chose the High Court of Tripura as his parent High Court. Since June 10, 2022, he has been serving on transfer in the High Court of Odisha. This appointment is expected to bring new leadership and expertise to the Odisha High Court and contribute to the administration of justice in the state of Odisha.
