Cuttack city shines with 75 Kali puja pandals this year

Cuttack city in Odisha is experiencing a vibrant celebration of Kali Puja, matching the fervor traditionally associated with Durga Puja. A total of 75 puja committees have meticulously erected pandals adorned with idols of Goddess Kali throughout the city. Notably, 32 of these pandals boast silver embellishments, showcasing the diversity and opulence of the festivities. The budget for these elaborate pujas ranges from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, reflecting the scale and dedication invested in the celebrations.

Among the array of Goddess Kali idols worshipped in Cuttack, the one at Bakhrabad Loka Mandala Puja Committee stands out for its uniqueness. Termed ‘Chhinnamasta’ or the Headless Goddess, this idol portrays the goddess holding her severed head, with blood flowing from her neck. A striking depiction, the blood from the severed head connects to her mouth while two other streams flow to the mouths of her two associates. Notably deviating from the traditional imagery, the goddess steps over an embracing man and woman on a lotus instead of standing on the recumbent Lord Shiva.

To ensure the safety and orderliness of the festival, extensive security measures have been implemented. DCP Pinak Mishra confirmed the deployment of 50 platoons of the police force at various locations, with special squads formed to address any untoward incidents during the celebration of Diwali. This meticulous planning underscores the authorities’ commitment to a joyous and secure festive season.
