The Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) in Bhubaneswar is set to enhance its wildlife collection by acquiring a pair of cheetahs, exotic white lions, and other animals from abroad. As part of an animal exchange program, a pair of cheetahs and white lions will be brought from a zoo in Dubai in January next year. Additionally, Nandankanan zoo plans to acquire new species of birds from abroad under this program. Susanta Nanda, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (wildlife), shared this positive development, mentioning the inclusion of giraffes in another animal exchange program with Alipore Zoological Garden in West Bengal. The exchange details indicate that Nandankanan will receive a male and a female cheetah in exchange for five Manipur brow-antlered deer. Furthermore, the zoo will acquire African white lions in exchange for five blackbucks from Dubai Safari Park in the UAE. This initiative aims to enrich the biodiversity of Nandankanan Zoo and provide visitors with the opportunity to witness a diverse array of wildlife species.
