Odisha’s Swasti Singh Clinches 50th Career Medal with Silver at Khelo India Women’s Cycling League

Odisha’s rising cycling star, Swasti Singh, achieved a significant milestone by winning her 50th career medal after securing a silver in the elite 40km mass-start event at the Asmita Khelo India Women’s Cycling League Road Event (North Zone). The event, held in Amritsar, concluded on Wednesday, adding to Swasti’s already impressive medal tally. This achievement brings her one step closer to her ambitious career goal of reaching 200 medals. Swasti’s 50 medals include six from international events and a remarkable collection from National Championships, National Games, the Khelo India Women’s League, and various all-India competitions. Her medal journey began in 2018, and she has since been a dominant force in Indian cycling.

The silver medal in the mass-start event followed her gold win in the 20km individual time-trial on Tuesday during the two-day road event. Swasti finished the mass-start race with a time of 1 hour, 14 minutes, and 39.270 seconds, narrowly missing out on gold to Meenakshi, who clocked 1:14:39.170. Maharashtra’s Sanskruti Sudhir Khese secured the bronze medal with a time of 1:14:40.132. The race ended in a photo finish, with mere milliseconds separating the top three cyclists.

Reflecting on her performance, Swasti shared that she prioritized safety during the mass-start event, which is known for the risk of accidents and injuries. “I could have won the gold had I taken more risks, but considering the event’s zonal level, I chose to play it safe,” said Swasti. Despite finishing second, she expressed satisfaction with her performance and joy over her milestone. Swasti also thanked her supporters, stating, “I am grateful to everyone who has helped me since my career began in 2015. This achievement motivates me to continue winning medals for my home state and for India. My goal is now set on reaching 200 career medals.”

Currently training at the SAI National Centre of Excellence in Patiala, Swasti is focused on upcoming challenges, particularly the Khelo India Women’s Cycling League Track Event (North Zone), scheduled for September 6 and 7 in Amritsar. With her growing confidence and experience, Swasti is expected to deliver another strong performance in this upcoming competition. This victory adds to Swasti’s reputation as one of India’s top cyclists, and her journey continues to inspire aspiring athletes across the country.
