The Odisha government has officially announced an enhanced monthly honorarium of Rs 30,000 for all Padma Awardees from the state, effective January 2025. This significant decision, communicated via a notification from the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department, aims to honor and support the contributions of these distinguished personalities.
The enhanced honorarium will benefit around 55 living Padma Awardees from Odisha. This includes recipients of Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan awards. The government had earlier promised a monthly honorarium of Rs 25,000 in March 2024, prior to the last general elections. This new decision increases the amount by Rs 5,000. The revised honorarium is expected to cost the state exchequer around Rs 2 crore annually, demonstrating the government’s commitment to recognizing the achievements of these individuals.
To ensure a seamless transfer of funds, District Collectors and District Cultural Officers have been instructed to submit the necessary details of the living awardees. This includes the District Collector’s certificate, bank account details, and IFSC code, enabling the honorarium to reach beneficiaries directly through DBT.
This initiative is part of the state government’s broader strategy to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of Padma Awardees in various fields, including art, culture, education, social work, and public service. The enhanced honorarium is not just a financial aid but also a token of respect and recognition for their enduring impact on society.
The Odisha government has urged prompt action from district-level authorities to expedite the process. The collected data will be coordinated through the Directorate of Odia, Language, Literature & Culture Department, ensuring timely disbursal of the honorarium.
This move by the Odisha government highlights its dedication to honoring the state’s illustrious personalities. By increasing the monthly honorarium to Rs 30,000, the government reiterates its respect and gratitude toward those who have brought laurels to Odisha and contributed significantly to its cultural and social fabric.
