The 19-year-old sprinter clocked an impressive time of 13.96 seconds, narrowly missing the gold medal by just 0.03 seconds. Fellow Indian athlete Unnathi Aiyappa claimed the gold with a new meet record of 13.93 seconds. Sri Lanka’s Miyuni Sidasna finished a distant third, clocking 15.32 seconds. Sabita’s silver medal adds another accolade to her growing list of achievements and further solidifies her reputation as one of India’s most promising young athletes.

Sabita first made headlines by winning two international junior medals at the 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championship 2022 in Kuwait, where she secured gold in the medley relay and silver in the 100m hurdles. Her outstanding performances earned her the prestigious Biju Patnaik Sports Award for the best upcoming athlete in 2023.

She is the third from the state to win a medal, following in the footsteps of Laxmi Priya Kisan, who claimed silver in the junior women’s 800m run, and Dondapati Mrutyam Jayaram, who won bronze in the junior men’s 100m sprint on the opening day of the championship.
