Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan hailed Utkala Gourav Madhusudan Das, also known as Madhu Babu, as the architect of modern Odisha and one of the foremost modern thinkers in the country. Speaking at an event commemorating the 175th birth anniversary of Madhu Babu, Pradhan praised his pivotal role in the formation of a separate Odisha state and in the areas of freedom of expression, education, industrialization, rural development, and labour reforms. Social organisations in Cuttack have initiated a signature campaign to confer the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award, on Madhu Babu posthumously and to declare his birthplace at Satyabhamapur a national heritage site. The signatures collected during the campaign will be presented to the President of India through Dharmendra Pradhan.
