Three young siblings from Koraput, India have defied their age and the searing heat to run 40 kilometers in a marathon event. Yamuna Bahadur (11), Tapasya Bahadur (7), and Hari Bahadur (10) completed the distance in approximately three hours, starting at the district SP office and passing through several checkpoints along the Koraput-Visakhapatnam national highway. Encouraged by a large number of spectators, the trio’s efforts were applauded by all and sundry. The same siblings gained attention last year for running 22 kilometers to promote the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup tournament. The children were initially trained by their father and later by coach Ramachandra Jena. The siblings were felicitated with trophies and certificates by the municipality gymnasium after returning from their run. The children cited their passion for running and their belief that it keeps their bodies fit as their motivation. Locals noted that the run was held to celebrate Hari’s birthday.
