The Odisha contingent delivered a remarkable performance at the 4th Indian Open Under-23 Athletics Championship, finishing third in the overall medals tally. The 18-member team from Odisha secured an impressive haul of 5 gold and 2 silver medals, showcasing their talent and determination on a national stage. Leading the charge for Odisha was ace sprinter Animesh Kujur, who dominated the sprint events by winning both the 100m and 200m races. Kujur’s victory in the 200m event was particularly notable, as he set a new meet record with a blistering time of 20.65 seconds, breaking his own previous record. Earlier in the competition, Kujur set another meet record in the 100m event, clocking a time of 10.38 seconds. His stellar performance earned him the title of Best Male Athlete of the Championship, a fitting recognition for his consistent and exceptional efforts throughout the season. Sharing his joy over the achievement, Kujur said, “I am glad that I could maintain consistency the entire season. I am really happy to have won the Best Male Athlete award.”
