Padma awards were recently conferred on several achievers across the nation for bringing a positive revolution in several fields, like art, literature, science, social work, etc. Odisha has created an unforgettable impact on the national level with 16 dignitaries bagging Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan in the year 2020-2021. They have brought laurels to our state and have set new standards for everyone. Veteran sculptor Sudarshan Sahoo was conferred Padma Vibhushan in the field of art. The 82-year-old art veteran has also been a proud recipient of Padma Shri, and his notable works include carvings of Jataka tales.
Shri Manoj Das was awarded the Padma Bhushan award posthumously for his remarkable contribution in the field of literature and education.
Dr. Digambar Behera was honoured with Padma Shri for his notable contribution to medicine. A senior professor at PGIMER, Chandigarh, he has treated thousands of patients afflicted with lung cancer, with affordable chemotherapy.
Dr. Utsab Charan Das, a renowned Odissi dancer, was conferred the Padma Shri award for bringing forth innovations in the traditional folk dance form ‘Ghoda Chaiti Nacha’.
Damayanti Beshra was presented the Padma Shri for her significant contribution to the field of literature. She has notable works in Santali and Odia languages.
Dr Manmohan Mahapatra was awarded Padma Shri posthumously for his notable contribution in the field of filmmaking.
Mitrabhanu Gountia, a retired teacher, and also the composer of a well-known Sambalpuri cult song, Rangabati, has been presented the Padma Shri award in the field of art.
Prof. Radha Mohan and his daughter Sabarmatee have been awarded Padmashree for their pioneering contribution in the field of organic farming.
Batakrushna Sahoo, a native of Khorda has been conferred Padma Shri in the field of animal husbandry. He has played a vital role in introducing farmers to pisciculture.
Dr Binapani Mohanty has been awarded the Padma Shri for her significant contribution in the field of literature. She has carved a niche for herself in Odia fiction writing.
Dr Prasanta Kumar Pattnaik was conferred Padma Shri in the field of education and literature.
Purnamasi Jani was awarded Padma Shri for her contribution to the field of art and literature. She has written over 1 lakh poems in her lifetime and has also sung several devotional songs.
Nanda Prusty was conferred Padma Shri in the field of education. The 102-year-old achiever has made a phenomenal contribution by providing free education in the Jeypore town of Odisha.
Prof Rajat Kumar Kar has been bestowed with Padma Shri for his contribution to art and literature. Apart from being an eminent play-writer and author, he is a seasoned commentator for Rath Yatra.
Shanti Devi has been awarded Padma Shri for her social work. She was honoured for restoring peace in the Maoist affected areas in Odisha.
Krishna Mohan Pathi was conferred Padma Shri for his significant contribution in the field of medicine. The 82-year-old orthopaedic surgeon was felicitated for providing free treatment in the Ganjam district of Odisha.
