The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) has introduced the ‘Odisha Yatri Driver Partner’ app, aiming to offer an affordable and driver-friendly alternative to Ola and Uber. Available on the Google Play Store, this platform seeks to revolutionize urban mobility by creating a fair, transparent ecosystem for both drivers and passengers.
The app ensures direct payments to drivers through platforms like PhonePe and Google Pay, eliminating commission-based deductions. With government-regulated fares, passengers benefit from lower costs, while drivers enjoy higher earnings. At an awareness event led by Joint Commissioner Samarendra Patnaik at Cuttack Netaji Bus Terminal (CNBT), drivers were educated about the app’s features and benefits. The app aligns with the broader mission of “VIKSIT Odisha”, aiming to empower drivers and improve customer service.
To support this initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between key stakeholders, including the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC), Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), and Moving Tech, the parent company of Namma Yatri. The ONDC framework promotes an interoperable digital network, reducing the dominance of middlemen in commerce.
Odisha Yatri’s zero-commission model promises greater income transparency and sustainable growth for drivers. It offers a range of transport options, including sedans, XL taxis, minicabs, and will soon expand to cover intercity travel, rentals, and scheduled services. The platform is designed to meet diverse needs such as pet-friendly rides, accessibility for disabled passengers, and extra luggage accommodations.
With over 4,000 drivers already registered and enthusiastic support from driver unions, the app is set to make urban travel in Odisha convenient, affordable, and inclusive. The initiative aims to gradually replace Ola and Uber by promoting fairer earnings and better customer experiences, ensuring a cleaner and more efficient transport future for the state.
