President Droupadi Murmu Launches Three Dairy Initiatives to Boost Rural Economy in Odisha

President Droupadi Murmu virtually inaugurated three transformative dairy initiatives—Cow Induction, Gift Milk, and Market Support—to enhance livestock productivity and strengthen the rural economy in Odisha. The launch was conducted from Rashtrapati Bhavan in collaboration with the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

Highlighting the critical role of livestock in the rural economy, President Murmu stated, “These initiatives will uplift the economic status of rural cattle farmers and enhance India’s standing in milk production through breed development and genetic upgradation.” She stressed that improving livestock health and productivity directly impacts food quality and rural incomes.

Key Initiatives:
Cow Induction Program: Under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, 3,000 high-quality milch cows will be distributed to beneficiaries in 26 blocks of Mayurbhanj district, with 1,000 cows designated for Rairangpur sub-division. Sourced from Gujarat, these cows will help improve the genetic quality of cattle, boosting milk production and enabling economic growth for dairy farmers.

Gift Milk Initiative: Aimed at combating malnutrition among school children, this program will provide 200 ml of fortified, flavored milk enriched with Vitamins A and D to enhance nutrition and health in schools.
Market Support: This initiative will provide dairy farmers with better access to markets, ensuring fair prices and sustainable income growth.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi were present at the launch. These initiatives align with India’s remarkable achievements in milk production, reflecting strategic efforts in breed development and animal husbandry. The program is expected to improve the livelihoods of rural communities, ensure food security, and contribute to India’s dairy development goals. With these measures, Odisha is set to strengthen its rural economy and position itself as a leader in sustainable dairy production.
