The highly anticipated 4th edition of the Odisha Naval Tata Hockey Grassroots League Championship 2024 commenced at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. Organized by the Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre (HPC) in collaboration with the Sports & Youth Services department of the Odisha government, this event is set to run until July 12.
This grassroots initiative aims to identify and nurture young hockey talent across the state, creating a robust pipeline of skilled players for future national and international competitions. The league championship serves as a crucial platform for emerging hockey players, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience.
The initial phase of the event took place in Nuagaon and Jajpur from June 10 to 15. This phase saw enthusiastic participation from 32 grassroots centres in both men’s and women’s categories. From this pool, 8 teams from each category successfully advanced to the final phase.
In the men’s category, HTCs Rajganpur, Kutra, Bonai, Tileikani, Bisra, Chatrapur, Subdega, and Saunamara have qualified for the final phase. Similarly, in the women’s category, HTCs Gurundia, Nuagaon, Lefhirpada, Kuaramunda, Bargaon, Lathikata, Chatrapur, and Dhenkanal have made it to the final phase.
