The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) and Kotak Mahindra Bank jointly announced the inauguration of “India’s first fully integrated school of sustainability.” The launch event was presided over by Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan. The Kotak School of Sustainability (KSS) aims to address climate change challenges and bolster research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in line with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020. Funded through Kotak Mahindra Bank’s corporate social responsibility initiative, the school will foster collaborative research on sustainability, covering areas such as clean energy, environment, ecology, circular economy, climate finance, and sustainable societies. Led by tenured professors and global industry experts, KSS will offer undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs and skill-building initiatives. The school will be situated in a platinum-rated green building on IIT Kanpur’s main campus, practicing net zero principles for energy, water, and waste management. Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the importance of the school in promoting global leadership, encompassing diverse aspects of sustainability and contributing to India’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2070, as announced by the Prime Minister.
