This distinguished award, established in memory of the renowned coach Kamal Ganguly, is organized by Saheed Sporting in Bhubaneswar and generously sponsored by Maruti Estate India Pvt Ltd. The Kamal Ganguly Award, a symbol of outstanding contributions to sports, has been presented annually since 2012. The felicitation ceremony for Mishra and Behera is scheduled to take place on February 18 at Saheed Sporting premises, Bhubaneswar.
Bharatikrushna Mishra, a well-respected goalkeeper on the national stage, holds a commendable sporting history. His participation in the Indian team during the Youth Asian Championship in Tokyo in 1965 showcased his prowess. Representing Odisha in the Subrat Cup in 1960 and the Santosh Trophy in 1967 and 1968 further solidified his position in the footballing realm. Notably, Mishra also served as one of the selectors for the Indian football team during the 1982 Asian Games.
On the other hand, Amulya Behera, the nominated hockey coach, embarked on his coaching journey in 1991 following comprehensive training at the National Sports Academy. Prior to his coaching career, Behera showcased his skills as a player for Berhampur University for three years. As a coach, he contributed significantly to the development of talented hockey players, including notable names such as Prabodh Tirkey, Ignes Tirkey, Sunil Ekka, and others. His coaching tenure included a notable stint at the State Sports Hostel.
