Tata Steel SEZ & Hygenco To Set Up Green Hydrogen & Ammonia Project At Odisha’s Gopalpur

Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited (TSSEZL) and HHP Five Private Limited (Hygenco) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a cutting-edge green hydrogen and green ammonia project at TSSEZL’s Gopalpur Industrial Park (GIP) in Odisha’s Ganjam district. This strategic partnership aims to propel sustainable development in the region while fostering advancements in green fuel technology. As per the agreement, Hygenco will secure land within GIP to construct the green hydrogen, green ammonia, and derivatives unit. With a vision to produce 1 million tonnes per annum (1 MnTPA) of green hydrogen, the project will be executed in phases, with the initial phase targeted for commissioning by December 2026.

TSSEZL Managing Director, Manikanta Naik, expressed delight in welcoming Hygenco onboard, highlighting that the total committed capacity of green hydrogen and green ammonia manufacturing at GIP now stands at approximately 2.6 MnTPA. This solidifies GIP’s position as a prominent green hydrogen and ammonia hub in India, reflecting the ongoing efforts to create a conducive environment for businesses and strengthen infrastructure offerings at the industrial park. Hygenco Founder and CEO, Amit Bansal, emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging superior technology in the project. Having already demonstrated prowess by commissioning India’s first green hydrogen project earlier this year, Hygenco aims to produce low-cost green ammonia using advanced technology. The company’s strategic vision entails becoming a dominant player in the global green fuel sector, with plans to export the initial phase’s produce, following advanced discussions with various clients. The green ammonia produced at the new plant will be exported via the nearby Gopalpur Port, ensuring seamless transportation and further enhancing the region’s export capabilities.
