Odisha-cadre IPS officer Amrit Mohan Prasad has been appointed as the Special Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved this decision, as per the Ministry of Home Affairs notification. Prasad, a 1989-batch IPS officer, will serve in this role until August 31, 2025, or until further orders. Currently, he holds the position of Director General of Prisons in Odisha.
This appointment follows the premature repatriation of Y B Khurania, a 1990-batch IPS officer, from his role as BSF Deputy Special DG (West). Khurania’s repatriation has fueled speculation regarding his potential appointment as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha. Arun Kumar Sarangi, another 1990-batch officer, has been serving as the acting DGP since December 31, 2023.
