The eagerly anticipated ropeway at Nandankanan Zoological Park, located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, is set to be inaugurated today. The aerial ropeway project, initiated in October 2021 in collaboration with Kolkata-based Damodar Ropeway Infra Limited (DRIL) at an investment of approximately Rs 13 crore, has reached completion and awaits government approval. Initially featuring four cabins for visitors, an additional eight cabins will be added, allowing around 500 people to ride the ropeway per hour upon the installation of all 12 cabins.
The ropeway spans a distance of 626 meters from the zoo campus to the botanical garden, offering a thrilling ride over the jungle. Infused with a ‘jungle theme,’ the ropeway showcases intricate tribal art, emphasizing the natural flora and fauna of the region, providing an immersive experience of Odisha’s art and culture. Beyond the excitement of the ropeway, the zoo authorities have proposed a ‘night out programme’ and ‘nocturnal trail’ in their 2040 master plan submitted to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), aiming to enhance visitors’ experiences.
