A unique tribute to Odisha’s spiritual heritage is unfolding at Ekdalia Evergreen Club’s Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata. For its 82nd year, the club has meticulously recreated the iconic Jagannath Temple of Puri, complete with a towering 107ft structure and a 27ft Durga idol. Beyond the visual spectacle, the club has taken the devotion to new heights by offering authentic “bhog” similar to Srimandir’s mahaprasad. From Khaja and gaja to malpua and kanika, devotees can savor the traditional flavors associated with the Puri temple during the five-day festival.

To enhance the experience, the club has incorporated key rituals followed in the Jagannath Temple, such as the worship of both the goddess and Lord Jagannath. The main idol, crafted by renowned artisan Sanatan Rudra Pal, showcases a deliberate connection to Lord Jagannath through its Chalchitra. The pandal itself is a marvel of craftsmanship, taking four to five months to construct with the expertise of artisans from Medinapore district. The club has invested approximately Rs 25 lakh in this endeavor, reflecting their dedication to creating a truly immersive experience.

This year’s theme aims to strengthen the bond between Odisha and Bengal, recognizing the deep-rooted devotion of Bengalis towards Lord Jagannath. The pandal’s lighting also pays homage to Odisha, featuring wildlife scenes and elements from Bhubaneswar’s Nandankanan Zoo.
