Indian President Droupadi Murmu was honored with Suriname’s highest civilian award, the Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star, by Surinamese President Chandrikapersad Santokhi. This recognition acknowledges President Murmu’s significant contributions to strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Suriname. President Murmu, the first Indian recipient of this prestigious award, visited Serbia and Suriname during her three-day state visit. She dedicated the award to the Indian-Surinamese community, expressing gratitude for the honor and emphasizing its significance for the Indian population she represents. The visit also witnessed the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between India and Suriname, solidifying their partnership in critical areas such as health, agriculture, and capacity building. These agreements highlight the commitment of both countries to collaborate and enhance cooperation in various sectors.
