At the 53rd convocation of Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, President Droupadi Murmu conferred honorary doctorates upon three distinguished individuals, including Mr. Pramod Kumar Mishra, the Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister of India. Alongside Mishra, Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, and Managing Director of Hindalco Industries Ltd, Satish Pai, were also honored with the prestigious DLit degree.
The ceremony, graced by President Murmu as the chief guest, celebrated the achievements of these remarkable individuals, recognizing their significant contributions to their respective fields. In addition to the honorary doctorates, 166 scholars were awarded PhD degrees, and 95 meritorious students received gold medals, highlighting the academic excellence at Utkal University.
Mr. Pramod Kumar Mishra, a retired IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre, assumed the role of Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2019, following his tenure as the additional principal secretary in the PMO. Elevating to cabinet rank in the Modi 2.0 government on June 12, 2019, Mishra’s appointment as Principal Secretary came after the retirement of Nripendra Misra. Hailing from Patnaikpada in Sambalpur town, Mishra completed his schooling from Sambalpur District School and graduated from GM College.
Satish Pai, recognized for his outstanding contributions to the growth of the metal industry and sustainability initiatives, serves as the Managing Director of Hindalco, the flagship metal company of the Aditya Birla Group, since 2016. Under his leadership, Hindalco has witnessed significant innovation and growth, with substantial investments exceeding Rs. 25,000 crores in Odisha over the past 15 years, establishing a strong industrial presence in the region.
