Odisha's Phula Soren Named Vice-Captain of India's Blind Women's Cricket Team

Phula Soren from Odisha has been named the vice-captain of India’s blind women’s cricket team for the upcoming Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games 2023 in Birmingham, UK. Varsha Umapathi from Karnataka will lead the women’s team, while Ajay Kumar Reddy Illuri and Venkateswara Rao Dunna from Andhra Pradesh will captain and be deputy, respectively, for the men’s team. CABI Chairman Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar stated that it’s the first time both men’s and women’s teams will participate in the World Games, and they aim to maintain the country’s cricketing prowess. The tournament is scheduled from August 18 to August 27, marking the first inclusion of blind cricket in the World Games.
