Kashika Misra, a 17-year-old golf prodigy from Odisha, has etched her name in history as the first Odia girl to win an Indian Golf Union (IGU) Championship. Kashika emerged victorious in the prestigious IGU Northern India Ladies and Junior Girls Championship, held at JP Greens, Greater Noida, from November 18 to 21, 2023. Competing in both Category A (15–18 years) and the Open Category (Senior Amateur), she clinched first place in all categories, showcasing exceptional talent and determination.
Kashika displayed remarkable resilience throughout the three-day tournament. Starting in fifth position on Day 1, she delivered an extraordinary performance to climb the leaderboard, eventually securing the championship with an impressive score of 11 under par. She finished the tournament with a 4-stroke lead over runner-up Mannat Brar, cementing her position as one of India’s top amateur golfers.
Kashika’s journey to this victory has been inspiring. She earned her World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) in May 2023 at the age of 16 and has represented Odisha at the National Games in November 2023.
