The National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC) has unveiled its selection of 20 films from 11 different countries for the 17th edition of the Film Bazaar. This co-production market event takes place alongside the prestigious International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Among the chosen films is ‘Baghuni (Dance like a Tiger),’ a production hailing from the Indian state of Odisha. Directed by the internationally acclaimed filmmaker, producer, and promoter Jitendra Mishra, and produced by London-based Odisha-born entrepreneur Partha Sarathi Panda under his entity Glocal Films UK Limited, this cinematic endeavor represents a significant collaboration between individuals with strong ties to Odisha. Notably, this venture is set to be a multinational co-production, a pioneering feat for films originating from Odisha.
‘Baghuni (Dance like a Tiger)’ is a project that will be shot entirely in different locations within Odisha in the coming year. It will feature a diverse cast, crew, and technicians, incorporating local talent alongside international professionals. The film’s primary objective is to spotlight and promote the rich art, culture, traditions, and heritage of Odisha on a global stage. Simultaneously, it seeks to create global opportunities for local stories and professionals in related fields.
This year’s Film Bazaar selections include films from various countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the US, the UK, Singapore, Germany, France, Poland, Luxembourg, and Israel. The chosen filmmakers will have the opportunity to pitch their projects to a wide range of industry professionals during the five-day conclave, including international and Indian producers, distributors, festival programmers, financiers, and sales agents. Jitendra Mishra, the founder of Cinema4Good, has a significant track record in the production, distribution, and promotion of more than 50 national and international films across various categories and capacities. Some of his recent works include ‘The Last Color,’ ‘Buried Seeds,’ ‘Desires of the Heart,’ ‘Human Oak,’ ‘I am Kalam,’ and ‘Barefoot Empress.’
Partha Sarathi Panda, originally from Odisha and based in London, has actively promoted Indian art, culture, and cinema in the UK through various socio-cultural initiatives. For the ‘Baghuni (Dance like a Tiger)’ project, he has partnered with Jitendra Mishra under his production house, Glocal Films UK Limited. The 54th edition of IFFI is scheduled to take place from November 20 to 28 in Panaji, Goa, where ‘Baghuni’ and other selected films will gain exposure on the international stage.
