Odisha’s Aahaan & Aahan Clinch Singles Titles at Berhampur AITA Super Series U-16 Tennis Tournament

Odisha’s rising tennis stars, Aahaan Mishra and Aahan, lived up to their top billing by securing the singles titles at the AITA Super Series U-16 Tennis Tournament held at the Union Club clay courts in Berhampur. The prestigious event marked the return of National-level tennis to the Silk City after a gap of seven years, attracting young talents from across India. In the boys’ singles final, Odisha’s Aahaan Mishra faced a tough challenge from Tamil Nadu’s Fazal Ali Meer. The gripping contest saw Aahaan hold his nerve to claim victory in straight sets (6-4, 7-6, 7-5 in the tiebreaker), securing the championship title. His resilience and composure in the second-set tiebreak proved decisive in clinching the crown.

Unlike the closely contested boys’ final, Odisha’s Aahan showcased supreme dominance in the girls’ singles final, comfortably defeating West Bengal’s Riya Roy in straight sets (6-1, 6-4). Her powerful strokes and tactical gameplay left her opponent with little chance to mount a comeback. Both Aahaan Mishra and Aahan were awarded 50 National ranking points for their victories, while the beaten finalists, Fazal Ali Meer and Riya Roy, secured 40 National ranking points each. These crucial points will help them advance in the All India Tennis Association (AITA) rankings, further boosting their budding careers.

The prize distribution ceremony saw the presence of Berhampur Superintendent of Police Dr. Sravan Vivek, who handed over the winners’ trophies. The event was also graced by Ganjam District Tennis Association (GDTA) president Abdul Sattar, tournament secretary Uma Shankar Padhi, director Biswaranjan Patnaik, and tournament referee Jatin Batsya, highlighting the significance of the tournament in reviving competitive tennis in the region.

This edition of the AITA Super Series U-16 Tournament was particularly special as it marked Berhampur’s return to hosting a National-level tennis event after seven years. The tournament provided young and promising tennis players a platform to showcase their talent and gain valuable ranking points in the national circuit. With the resounding success of this year’s event, tennis enthusiasts and organizers are optimistic about more such tournaments returning to Berhampur, further promoting the sport in Odisha and beyond.
