Odisha made a remarkable mark at the 23rd Junior National Wushu Championship, securing a total of 12 medals, including 2 gold, 1 silver, and 9 bronze. The prestigious event took place from July 26 to 31 at KPR College of Science & Technology in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The Odisha Wushu Association (OWA) fielded a formidable 35-member squad, comprising 24 boys and 11 girls, under the guidance of coaches Pankaj Mahanta and Sujan Rath, and supported by head judge Pradyumna Behera and national judges Anuradha Dora, Tika Bahadur, and Susanta Naik. The team’s participation was fully sponsored by the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha.
Odisha’s medal winners include Sujain Islam, who won gold in Boys Traditional Taolu and silver in Boys Taolu Soft-Style Weapon, both representing Khurda. Prem Munda clinched gold in the Boys 48kg Sanda category from Keonjhar. Bronze medalists include Sabita Munda in Girls 52kg Sanda, Ramesh Munda in Boys 48kg Sanda, and Madan Munda in Boys 45kg Sanda, all representing Keonjhar. Anwesha Pallai won bronze in Girls Taolu Taijiquan from Khurda, while Dibyakanti Oram secured bronze in Girls Taolu Changquan from Sambalpur. Samridhi earned bronze in Girls Taolu Qianshu from Sundargarh. Asish Dirdeo Samanta won two bronze medals in Boys Taolu Other Style and Boys Taolu Double Weapon, both from Khurda, and Rahul Ghadai earned bronze in Boys Taolu Nanquan, also from Khurda.
