Odisha para shuttlers Deep Ranjan Bisoyee and Subhrajeet Maharana bags 3 medals at Bahrain Meet

Odisha’s para shuttlers Deep Ranjan Bisoyee and Subhrajeet Maharana have brought immense pride to their state by securing three medals at the Bahrain Para Badminton International 2024, held in Manama from May 21 to 26. Their exceptional performance highlights their dedication and skill in the sport of para-badminton. Deep Ranjan Bisoyee emerged as a standout athlete by winning a gold and a bronze medal. Bisoyee, who is Odisha’s second-most decorated para shuttler after Paralympic and World champion Pramod Bhagat, showcased his talent in the men’s doubles SU5-SL3-SL4 combined category. Partnering with Uttarakhand’s Manoj Sarkar, Bisoyee triumphed in the final match, defeating the team of Subhrajeet Maharana and Jagadesh Dilli from Tamil Nadu with a score of 21-15, 23-21. This victory secured the gold medal for Bisoyee and Sarkar.

In the mixed doubles SL3-SU5 category, Bisoyee, along with his Ukrainian partner Oksana Kozyna, earned a bronze medal. Despite a valiant effort, they were overpowered by the Indonesian duo of Fredy Setiawan and Leani Ratri Oktial in the semifinals, losing 4-21, 4-21. With these achievements, Bisoyee’s international medal tally now stands at 16, including 4 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals.

Subhrajeet Maharana also demonstrated his prowess on the international stage by winning a silver medal in the men’s doubles SU5-SL3-SL4 combined category. Maharana and his partner Jagadesh Dilli put up a strong fight in the final against Bisoyee and Sarkar. Despite their efforts, they fell short, resulting in a 31-minute match and ultimately securing the silver medal. This addition brings Maharana’s international medal count to five, comprising 1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
