The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has made significant appointments in the Indian security apparatus, with Odisha-cadre IPS officer Sapna Tewari appointed as the Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Tewari, a seasoned officer from the 1992 batch, currently serves as Additional Director in the IB. Her appointment, approved by the ACC, is for a tenure of two years from the date of assuming charge or until her superannuation on April 30, 2026, as per the Personnel Ministry’s order. Tewari’s elevation comes on the heels of her promotion to the rank of Director General (DG) of Police by the Odisha government on March 7, further solidifying her stature in the law enforcement community.
In another key development, Nalin Prabhat, a senior IPS officer of the 1992 batch from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, has been entrusted with the responsibility of heading the National Security Guard (NSG), the country’s premier counter-terrorism force. Prabhat, currently serving as Additional Director General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been appointed as Director General of the NSG for a term extending up to August 31, 2028, coinciding with the date of his superannuation. The ACC’s decision brings clarity to the leadership of the NSG, which was under the additional charge of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) chief Daljit Singh Chawdhary. With Prabhat’s appointment, the NSG can now look forward to dedicated leadership to further enhance its capabilities in safeguarding the nation against terrorist threats
