Kashika Mishra, a 16-year-old golfer from Odisha, is making waves in the Indian sporting scene. Recently, she emerged victorious in the ITC Classic event of the Amway Nutrilite Golf Tour in Delhi, securing a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). This remarkable achievement makes Kashika the first Odia woman to accomplish this feat. Her win in the ITC Classic event also earned her a spot in the FCG Callaway World Championship Junior Golf meet in California, USA, scheduled for July 2023. Kashika’s talent was recognized by her father, Brigadier TK Mishra, who noticed her skills when she was 12 years old. Despite his busy schedule, Brig. Mishra served as her first coach, dedicating time to taking her to practice sessions before and after work every day. This commitment continued even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Impressed by Kashika’s potential, Brig. Mishra enrolled her for full-time coaching with Raju James at DLF Academy in Gurugram. Currently, Kashika trains with renowned coaches Anitya Chand and DP Singh at DLF Academy. She also plays at the Delhi Golf Club and AEPTA, the Army golf course in Delhi. Kashika’s progress in golf has been remarkable, winning nine tour events and finishing as a runner-up in two events during the 2022-23 season. She has also represented India in various international tournaments, including the PPTV International Junior Golf Championship in Thailand, FGC Callaway Golf Championship and USA Junior Championship, Singapore Junior Golf Championship, and TJTD Junior Golf meet in Phuket.
Kashika credits her parents, particularly her mother Kiran, for her rapid growth as a golfer. Despite her father being posted in a forward area for the past two years, her mother has been instrumental in supporting Kashika’s daily practice, tournament preparations, and travel arrangements. Coming from an Army background, it has provided Kashika with an encouraging sports environment and easy access to golf courses.
A student of class XI at Shri Ram School in Gurugram, Kashika receives significant support from her school, which helps her manage her studies alongside her golfing commitments. She attends school when there are no tournaments, and the school arranges extra classes when needed. Kashika’s dedication to her academics is evident from her consistent 90 percentile scores in the challenging ICSE board curriculum. Odisha takes pride in this budding golfing star, who is shining brightly on the Indian sporting horizon.
