Kishore Jena has made history for Odisha by becoming the first athlete from the state to qualify for the final event of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. In the Javelin Throw qualifiers, Jena secured 9th place out of 12 athletes who earned their spots in the finals. Despite facing some challenges in his subsequent attempts, Jena’s initial throw of 80.55 meters ensured his place in the finals. Notably, his personal best throw is 84.38 meters. The renowned javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra leads the qualifying round with an 88.77-meter throw, and DP Manu, another Indian athlete, has also secured a spot in the finals. This marks the first time that three Indians have reached the finals of the Javelin Throw event. Out of a total of 37 javelin throwers in the qualifiers, split into groups A and B, those who achieved 83m or were among the top 12 performers from both groups have qualified for Sunday’s final.
