The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in Odisha’s Puri district plans to sell off chariot wheels and other wooden items of deities left unused after the Rath Yatra to promote Jagannath culture globally. Nandighosha, the chariot of Lord Jagannath, will export some of its wheels as two outfits have applied to purchase them. About 50% of the stocked wheels will be auctioned to Jagannath culture promoters, while the remaining 50% will be donated to socio-cultural and religious institutions in the country. The prices of ‘ratha chaka,’ ‘prabha,’ and ‘guja’ have been fixed at Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 10,000, respectively. SJTA has received 60 applications to buy the wheels, and it plans to display them at strategic locations such as Dharmasalas and the State Museum. The temple administration has prepared guidelines for buyers to follow and will take legal action against those found violating them.
