Odisha’s hockey star Amit Rohidas has grabbed the spotlight after being picked for Rs 48 lakh by Tamil Nadu Dragons during the Hockey India League (HIL) men’s auction for the 2024-25 season. A dependable defender and a key member of the Indian men’s hockey team, Rohidas will bolster the Chennai-based franchise’s backline as they prepare for the highly competitive season ahead. Rohidas brings extensive international experience to the Tamil Nadu Dragons. He played a significant role in the Indian squad that won bronze at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics and was part of the gold-medal winning teams at the 2014 and 2022 Asian Games. The HIL auction saw franchises investing heavily in key Indian players, with Harmanpreet Singh, India’s captain and star drag-flicker, becoming the most expensive player. He was acquired by Soorma Hockey Club (JSW Sports) for Rs 78 lakh.
