A group of fishermen off the coast of Paradip in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district hit the jackpot when they unexpectedly caught 17 rare Telia Borei fish during a deep-sea fishing expedition. The fishermen, hailing from the port town of Paradip, were out at sea and cast their nets, hoping for a decent catch. To their surprise, among the variety of species they pulled up, were the highly sought-after Telia fish. These 17 Telia fish, weighing more than 3 quintals in total, were quickly brought ashore, where the fishermen realized the rarity and potential value of their catch. Waste no time, they transported the Telia fish to the auction area to capitalize on their find.

During the auction, anticipation ran high as bidders vied for the chance to obtain these rare specimens. Ultimately, the catch of Telia fish fetched an astounding price of Rs 18 lakh, a considerable windfall for the fishermen involved. Reports indicate that a private firm was the successful bidder, acquiring the prized fish from the fishermen. This isn’t the first time the fishermen from Paradip have struck gold with their Telia fish catches. In a similar stroke of luck last December, they netted 17 rare Telia fish from the same waters, fetching an impressive sum of Rs 25 lakh at auction.
