On the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, the construction of chariots for the Ratha Yatra of the sibling deities of Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha began. The traditional ceremony involved placing three logs of Dhaura trees in a temporary shed called ‘Ratha Khala’ and performing puja and yajna. The Viswakarmas, or carpenters, then started constructing the wheels of the chariots for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. The Rath Yatra is scheduled for June 20 this year. Additionally, the day marked the start of the 21-day Chandan Yatra of the three deities at Narendra pond in the town, where the idols were taken in a procession to enjoy water sports.
