Budget 2024: Odisha Receives Record Rs 10,586 Crore for Railway Sector

The Centre has allocated a record amount of Rs 10,586 crore for the railway sector in Odisha, announced Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today. During a press meet in New Delhi, Vaishnaw highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s keen interest in enhancing railway infrastructure in Odisha, stating that Modi personally reviews the progress of various ongoing projects in the state. Rs 10,586 crore allocated for Odisha’s railway sector marks the highest allocation to date, underscoring the government’s commitment to transforming the region’s rail infrastructure.

Over 40 ongoing railway projects in Odisha will see a combined investment of Rs 54,434 crore. This substantial funding is set to bring about a significant transformation in the state’s railway network. The railway network in Odisha has achieved 100% electrification, a major milestone in enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability. A total of 59 railway stations, including major hubs like Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, will be redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme. This initiative aims to modernize stations with improved amenities and infrastructure to provide better services to passengers.

Since 2014, Odisha has seen the construction of 427 flyovers and underpasses, significantly improving safety and connectivity across the state. Minister Vaishnaw emphasized the government’s focus on Odisha, noting, “This is a record allocation for Odisha in the railway sector. The railway sector in Odisha will see a massive transformation.” He also highlighted the strategic importance of these investments in boosting the state’s overall development and connectivity.
