Upcoming Odisha tennis player Avipsha Dehury has achieved the most significant milestone of her career by securing a double crown in the AITA National Series U-16 tournament at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy. The young athlete from Bhubaneswar, ranked No. 86 in India, demonstrated resilience and skill, especially notable in her victory in the girls’ singles final. In a fiercely contested singles final, Avipsha faced Tamil Nadu’s Bawyasri ASR. Despite a challenging second set, where she experienced a temporary setback, Avipsha managed to clinch the match with scores of 7-6 (7-3), 0-6, 6-2. This victory marks Avipsha’s maiden National Series title, a testament to her growing prowess in the sport.

Earlier in the semifinals, Avipsha showcased her dominance by defeating another Tamil Nadu competitor, Sanmitha Lokesh, with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win. Her performance throughout the tournament has been commendable, highlighting her potential as a rising star in Indian tennis. In addition to her singles success, Avipsha also triumphed in the girls’ doubles event. Partnering with Avyaktha Rayavarapu from Telangana, the duo overcame the Telangana-Tamil Nadu team of Aditi Paturi and Tejaswi Manneni with a straight-sets victory of 6-2, 6-4 in the final. This victory further solidified Avipsha’s status as a versatile and formidable player on the court.

The path to their doubles final was marked by an impressive semifinal performance, where Avipsha and Avyaktha defeated Telangana opponents Zoha Qureshi and Savarnika Visanakarra with an overwhelming 6-1, 6-1 victory. This dominant performance set the stage for their final triumph. Avipsha Dehury is a student at KIIT International School in Bhubaneswar and trains at the Farhan Ali Tennis Academy in Patia. Her coach, Farhan Ali, praised her hard work and discipline, citing these qualities as key to her success. “Avipsha is a hard-working player and discipline is her forte. She has the ability to make a mark on the junior international circuit,” said Coach Ali.
